The Bulgarian town of Samokov plays host to the 2014 European Cross Country Championships, the 21st staging of the event. The championships are steeped in tradition with many of the continent's finest male and female distance runners claiming race victories over the years, including British duo Mo Farah and Paula Radcliffe. In 2013, Spain's Alemayehu Bezabeh won the men's title for a second time, while Sophie Duarte became the third French winner of the women's race.
