Pupils from an Edinburgh school explore how their community was affected by WWI. They investigate the stories of non-combatants, such as a nurse and a conscientious objector.
4/5 Over the past year, pupils from Portobello High School in Edinburgh, have been investigating how men, women and children from their community were affected by World War One.
In this episode, the students learn how local businesses coped with the shortage of manpower; they hear about a Portobello nurse serving at the frontlines, and they uncover the story of the conscientious objector who would suffer any penalty rather than give up his principles.
