The Raceview Mill

The Raceview Mill

First off today we visit Raceview Mill in County Antrim. It’s an impressive place at 70,000 square feet, with vaulted brick celilings, oak beams and a 20 foot turbine engine. It’s also the setting for its own festival with a host of entertainment and food. We speak to organiser Willie Drennan and the man who brought the Raceview back to life – Roy McKeown.

Barefeet

Barefeet

Recently Anne Marie caught up with Adam McGuigan who has been on a whistle stop tour with his charity organisation Barefeet Theatre. Barefeet are a group of street children from Lusaka in Zambia who dance, sing and even do acrobatics! The tour wouldn’t be complete though without a return to his roots where, as Anne-Marie hears, he received a lot of support

Tiny Creatures of Portmore Lough

Tiny Creatures of Portmore Lough

It’s Bugs, Birds and Bees day at Portmore Lough. We’re talking to Amy Ryan about the 700 acres of wildflowers and wet grassland meadows just off the Soldierstown Road between Moira and Aghalee in County Antrim, where you can go on the hunt for creepy crawlies and even make them a hotel!

Bugs Birds and Bees takes place today (Saturday 16th August) at Portmore Lough

Stars Above

It’s been a busy week for the heavens with super moons, perseids and the international space station all visible in the night sky, and it’s not over yet! We’re hearing from the Irish Astronomical Association about the solar afternoon they’ll be hosting in the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust head-quarters in Castle Espie, County down.

Terry Moseley joins Anne Marie to talk about telescopes, giant sun spots and the only time you can stare directly at the sun.

The event runs from 2pm - 5pm tomorrow (Sunday 17th August)

The Lightship Petrel

The Lightship Petrel

Caroline Nolan has been down to Strangford Lough to come aboard The LightshipPetrel. She’s speaking to Trevor Marshall and Jim Miskelly of the Down Cruising Club which made the Lightship their unlikely club house 40 years ago. This year the Lightboat Petrel is turning 100 and Caroline gets a tour to see it features, new and old.

Down Cruising Club is at Ballydorn, Strangford Lough - that's where you can see the boat.

Their next open day is on Saturday August 30th and then they're open for European Heritage Weekend in September.
