Ofcom calls for input on whether TV providers should offer speaking electronic programme guides, a blind football coach; dealing with the bereavement of a loved one and feedback.
Peter White speaks to Peter Bourton, Ofcom's Head of TV Content Policy, about its calls for input on whether TV providers should be doing more to give viewers access to speaking electronic programme guides. At present, only a few providers are offering this service, and Ofcom wants to learn more about the costs and implications for TV providers if they were to include speaking electronic programme guides in future releases of their digital hardware.

Ofcom: Speaking EPGs

Ofcom is seeking views on whether ‘speaking TV guides’ could help blind or visually impaired people, and if it's feasible to introduce them across the UK’s TV services.
Around two million blind or visually impaired people in the UK currently find it difficult or impossible to use TV Electronic Programme Guides (EPGs).
To submit your views, information is available on the Ofcom website. The document can be used with screen readers and there is also an audio version.

Football Coach

Craig Riach is the first visually impaired person to obtain an IFA coaching qualification to train disabled footballers.
He is now a volunteer for Henshaws and delivers football fitness sessions on Mondays.
Dave also volunteers for the Newcastle United Foundation where he helps to deliver children’s football on Wednesday nights.
