Horizon, the BBC's long-running science programme, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2014. See Hear takes this opportunity to revisit a documentary made 40 years ago called Curtain of Silence. This documentary highlighted what were then ground-breaking new teaching methods and technologies to help deaf people speak and hear. We catch up with three of the people featured in the programme, as well as speak to an educational expert to find out how teaching methods and attitudes in deaf education have changed since.

The Curtain of Silence, originally shownin 1974 without subtitles or in vision signing, will be made available on BBC iPlayer as part of Horizon's 50th Anniversary Collection, where deaf audiences will be able to watch the documentary in full with subtitles for the first time.
Keep an eye on the See Hear website for the link to the BBC Four Collections to watch the original programme on BBC iPlayer, which will be available from May 22nd, 2014.
