Further information

Fewer and fewer people in Britain are now familiar with the book which tells the original story of Easter. A recent study showed that more than 40 per cent of eight to 15-year-olds knew nothing of the crucifixion, and many thought a Harry Potter plotline might have come from the Bible. A quarter of their parents placed Superman in scripture.

On All Things Considered Roy Jenkins asks who’s responsible for this growing Biblical illiteracy, and why does it matter anyway - and there’s a look at a project called Open the Book which could help to change things.
