Verger Alex Carberry has to overcome a fear of heights to drape a cloth over a giant crucifix, the minster police react to an emergency call, and the stonemasons prepare for one of their most important jobs for hundreds of years - carving a new version of the mysterious weathered figure at the pinnacle of the east window.

A year behind the scenes

The current MinsterĀ building has stood for 800 years and centuries of exposure to the elements have taken their toll.
The repair and restoration bill runs into millions and the complexity and scale of the job put it on a par with work on the rail bridge spanningĀ the Firth of Forth in Scotland.
