Journalist Anna is prevented from visiting a school siege in Beslan and gets a call from her lover's wife. With Anastasia Hille
September, 2004. When Anna hears of the seizure of a school by Chechen militants - she heads off to Beslan to report on the crisis but can only get a flight to Rostov.
As they descend, Anna becomes very sick. When she recovers from the suspected poisoning, Anna is congratulated at her book launch but her editor Dmitry says two of his staff have already been murdered and if necessary, he will get her off the paper and out of Moscow.
Following a desperate call from Muratov's wife, Anna thinks it is best to end their love affair.
