Episode 3
Katie Derham presents music performed by the BBC Philharmonic. Stravinsky: Fireworks. HK Gruber: Rough Music (with Colin Currie: percussion). Bruckner: Symphony No 6.
The BBC Philharmonic is joined by Colin Currie for HK Gruber's percussion concerto inspired by the medieval custom of Charivari, which entailed hitting objects to express disapproval at a villager who had been badly behaved. This is followed by a performance of Bruckner's mighty Sixth Symphony from a concert given at Leeds Town Hall in November.
