The Swing & Big Band Show with Clare Teal

Clare celebrates the BBC Northern Dance Orchestra, which had its beginnings in Manchester under conductor Alyn Ainsworth and featured Syd Lawrence and Johnny Roadhouse as players.

With the release of a new collection from the BBC Northern Dance Orchestra, Clare celebrates the music of the affectionately known NDO, with its famous players such as Syd Lawrence and Johnny Roadhouse and its beginnings in studio 1 Piccadilly in the mid 1950s. It rose from the ashes of the BBC Northern Variety Orchestra, which was founded in 1951 and would go on to perform almost daily on radio and TV.
