About the programme

Roy Jenkins hears about a project whose title reveals its big ambitions, Making Music Changing Lives. In a church hall on the Ely estate in Cardiff, 70 children a week are learning to play a variety of instruments, and we get a glimpse of the difference it’s making in a deprived community.
Inspired by the El Sistema project in Venezuela, which began by teaching violin to street children, the Rev. Jan Gould hopes to transform the lives of children who wouldn’t normally be able to afford music lessons.
This programme was originally broadcast in March 2013 and was recently the winner of the Jerusalem Award for Best Easter programme.
