The names of the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook school shootings have been released. They include 20 children aged six and seven years and six women aged between 27 and 56.

* The names of the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings have been released. The 20 children who died were 6 and 7. The 6 adults were women aged between 27 and 56. President Obama will visit Newtown later to talk to family and friends of those who died.
* The BBC's Sport Personality of the year for 2012 will be announced tonight, on BBC1 and on Radio 5 live from 7. The efforts of Lord Coe in organising the London 2012 Olympics will be recognised with a lifetime achievement award.
