This week Adam Walton discusses the contribution that enthusiastic amateurs of all ages can make to scientific research. He's joined in the studio by three scientists who regularly work alongside amateurs who gather valuable data in a wide range of projects at different skill levels. Dr Edward Gomez, Education Director of Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network, Dr Polly Spencer Vellacott, Welsh Officer for the Botanical Society of the British Isles, and Dr Robert Thomas from the School of Biosciences at Cardiff University discuss the contribution that "citizen scientists" make to astronomy, botany and the biosciences, and how it is continuing a tradition that goes back centuries.
We also hear from reporter Jeremy Grange who meets students at Whitchurch Hugh School in Cardiff who have been using remote controlled telescopes to search for comets and other objects in space.
Alan Daulby visits Goronwy Wynne, who, alongside other volunteers, spent many years gathering information on the flora of Flintshire.
