Back in 1927 visiting a garden was an established pastime enjoyed by a privileged few .......

...then a radical idea was born .... individuals were asked to open up private gardens for 'a shilling a head' to raise money for the nurses of the Queen's Nursing Institute. Eighty five years on and the National Garden Scheme opens 38,000 gardens raising money for charity.
