Having turned down the chance of coaching in the Premier League following overtures from Wolverhampton Wanderers, McDermott may have a chance to get into the top flight anyway if Reading continue their upward surge. The Royals came close last season when they lost the Championship play-off final to Swansea City, so they'll be aiming for automatic promotion this time around, starting with three points against Blackpool. Ian Holloway's men have promotion ambitions of their own, though the play-offs seem a more likely route for Blackpool at this stage.
