Rejected by Miss Beveridge, the debonair, if slightly decrepit, spy Lucifer Box seeks oblivion in dark Soho. Read by the author.

Of an indeterminate age, Lucifer Box is heading towards retirement as Head of the Royal Academy, aka the very secret, Secret Service.

Having had his advances rejected by his successor's secretary, Box heads to Soho in search of oblivion. There, he's shaken out of his self-pity when he witnesses a most curious assassination; soon he's heading across Europe, in the wake of the mysterious killer.

Written and read by Mark Gatiss.

Set in the 1950s, this is the third in a trilogy of spoof spy novels featuring the adventures of debonair - if now slightly decrepit - secret agent Lucifer Box.

Abridged by David Jackson Young.

Producer: Kirsteen Cameron.

Made for BBC Radio 4 Extra by BBC Scotland and first broadcast in October 2011.
