Rhod Sharp talks to a Republican who campaigned to repeal 'don't ask, don't tell', and to a former EU adviser in Afghanistan who knew assassinated ex-president Burhanuddin Rabbani.
Rhod Sharp speaks with Clarke Cooper of the Log Cabin Republicans - a gay pressure group which has successfully lobbied for the repeal of the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy in the US military.
He asks the BBC's Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen about Mahmoud Abbas's upcoming trip to the UN to seek membership for Palestine.
Rhod also hears from Lucy Morgan Edwards, who knew assassinated former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani when she worked as a political advisor to the EU ambassador in Afghanistan.
