Russell Davies celebrates the popular song with another rich and cunningly-linked programme. The featured artists include Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and Lord Kitchener.

This week's show opens with 80th birthday greetings to guitarist Kenny Burrell via a recording of his with singer Ernie Andrews. Next, Russell endeavours to unravel the relationships of the many "Hutton Girls" on the music scene, beginning with Marion, then June, then bandleader Ina Ray, who once employed songwriter Ruth Lowe as pianist.

We next hear Dick Haymes sing I'll Be Seeing You and Russell points out the discovery that his 40s recording of this bears the same string arrangement as Nat King Cole's 1950 Stay As Sweet As You Are and reveals why.

Next, Woolworths heiress Barbara Hutton comes into the equation: We hear Poor Little Rich Girl for her - and also for Tony Bennett, 85 this week, whose version we use. Barbara's cousin, Dina Merrill, is also heard with Too Good for the Average Man.

The story of an inamorata of Nat King Cole brings his Coquette. Cricketer Len Hutton appears in Lord Kitchener's The Ashes which, through Don Bradman, gives us Our Bungalow of Dreams and two more songs by the same composers. A rich and cunningly-linked programme!
