Episode 1 of 2

Rodney Elliott examines the revolutionary changes in farming over the last century. In the first episode, he discovers how progress in farming has affected the rural landscape.

Fermanagh dairy farmer Rodney Elliott, last seen by BBC Northern Ireland viewers emigrating to South Dakota in 'Wanted Farmers', is back in Fermanagh to explore his family's farming roots. In this two-part documentary Rodney traces both his family history and the history of the farm he grew up on in an epic story of the revolutionary changes in farming over the last hundred years.

Rodney Elliott sold his Fermanagh farm in 2007 and emigrated to South Dakota where he now milks 1500 cows in a state-of-the-art dairy. It's a far cry from the farm he grew up on. Farming has undergone a revolution in the last 60 years. In the first of two programmes Rodney returns home to find out how dramatic progress in the way we farm has affected the rural landscape and the lives of farming families, including his own.
