This week, Russell opens with a very rare and early (1912) Irving Berlin song which Russell suggests is still sound advice: Keep Away From The Fellow Who Owns An Automobile. He then reveals a shortlist of ten favourite duets that he will be asking listeners to vote on, in three weeks' time.
We hear five of the duets chosen, plus one suggested by a listener - Alex Welsh Band's Barefoot Days. Then Russell pays tribute to nonagenarian bass-player Joe Mudele, still keeping busy today. We hear him playing bass on a 50s session with singer Lita Roza, a pop recording with singer Frank Ifield and - only recently recorded - singing a ballad himself. Commenting on the 70th anniversary of the Coventry bombing raid, Russell mentions that this city was the birthplace of Frank Ifield, and also of Vince Hill, who we hear in Roses Of Picardy.
