Sandy Chalmers recalls the famous BBC institution, including The Big Pond, The Fishing Bear and Toytown: The Conversion of Mr Growser.

Sandy Chalmers takes an affectionate look back at the much loved BBC institution Children's Hour, which ran from 1922 to 1964 on the BBC Home Service. Sandy was first involved with Children's Hour as a child from 1953 to close down in 1964. Her selection in this edition:

The Big Pond: The Unhappy Dragon, by Bertha Lonsdale. A short play first broadcast in 1960 narrated by Trevor Hill. With Karal Gardner, Joseph Hancock and Brian Trueman.

The Fishing Bear, written and read by Bob Congdon. From 1954.

Toytown Plays: The Conversion of Mr. Growser, by SG Hulme Beaman. The Parade of the Tin Soldiers introduces a Toytown adventure featuring Larry the Lamb and Dennis the Dachshund. With Derek McCulloch, Arthur Wyan, Ralph de Kohan, Felix Felton, Norman Shelley and Stephen Jack. From 1951.
