Byron Rogers begins his search for heroes with a visit to the packed treasure house of a costume store. Read by Crawford Logan.

Byron Rogers recalls a children's programme on BBC Wales based on 'The Great Stone Face' by Nathaniel Hawthorne, which was about 'the power of myth'.

There's a face in a rock. One day the owner of that face will come – The Great Good Man. Despite looking for him throughout his life, the seeker does not find him. But on his death bed, it is clear the face is his.

Byron muses on a job where one can meet one's heroes. This is his quest for the face in the rock.

So he finds "a place where there was no time ... where the heroes' clothes hung": a theatrical costumiers' warehouse.
