From Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, Martin Handley introduces the BBC Philharmonic under chief conductor Gianandrea Noseda performing Rachmaninov's First Symphony.
From Manchester's Bridgewater Hall. Presented by Martin Handley.
The BBC Philharmonic and their chief conductor perform a work by one of the 20th century's great Romantics. Rachmaninov's First Symphony was premiered in 18977, but was not performed again in the composer's lifetime, as he left the score in Russia when he went into self-imposed exile at the time of the Russian Revolution and it was then lost.
