Marin Alsop and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra perform Bernstein's Symphony No 1 and Mahler's Symphony No 4.

Martin Handley introduces this concert recorded at the Lighthouse, Poole. Theatricality and heart-on-sleeve emotion are never far away in the music of Bernstein and Mahler. Bernstein's symphony tells the story of the gloomy and unheeded Old Testament prophet Jeremiah, whereas Mahler's ends with a touching child's view of heaven.
