Peggy tells Lilian they had a good Christmas with Pat and Tony, and she thinks her trip to the West End on Saturday is a wonderful present. Lilian suddenly remembers about the present from Jack. Unearthing it from the shoe cupboard, Lilian drops a massive hint to Peggy that there's a matching present for her anniversary in the other shoe!

At Shula's drinks party, David and Ruth explain that Heather's coming back to help while Ruth's in hospital. Shula and Alistair lament the thought that Jim will probably still be with them. It seems the only ones not at the drinks party are Kathy and Kenton. When Elizabeth learns that they're out at the panto tonight instead, she knows they're avoiding her. It's all too much and before she knows it, she finds herself spilling everything out to Shula.

Shula's shocked to hear about the rape but when Elizabeth explains how she's been called by Owen's defence Shula can understand how difficult it must be for Kathy. Elizabeth tries to justify her actions and points out how Kenton's making things worse. It explains a lot to Shula but Elizabeth breaks down and tells her she just can't bear it.
