5. Another Crack at Lear
Reflecting on Bristol’s Old Vic and King Lear across Ireland. Timothy West reads his last batch of letters to his wife.
1990: Timothy returns to the Bristol Old Vic as associate director, replete with every diminishing financial backing.
And it's on to the Tivoli Theatre, Dublin in 1992: to play King Lear.
Timothy must work with a Japanese costume designer and a host of digital watches regularly going off during the quietest section of the play.
Actor Timothy West concludes his last batch of letters written to his actress wife, Prunella Scales, over a period of 30 years while on tour around the UK.
Producer Michael Earley
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in August 1995.
