Brian's double-life gives cause for concern.
Brian goes to visit Siobhan in Germany. He takes presents for her and Ruairi, and is concerned when Siobhan seems distant. She finally confesses that she's still recovering from a virus over Christmas, and that she had to take Ruairi to Ireland so her mother could help care for him while she was sick. Brian is shocked that Siobhan was ill and didn't tell him - but tries to lighten the mood by taking her out for lunch. Siobhan is saddened when she realises that Brian hasn't told Jennifer where he is, but Brian insists that it's simpler that way. When Brian has to go, he finds it hard to leave Siobhan and his son behind.
Emma arrives for another shift at Brookfield, but it's clear that cleaning isn't her idea of fun. In the lambing shed, Ruth thanks David for deciding to hand the tractor re-fit over to Bert. David explains that he's willing to try with Ruth: but that sometimes reminders of what happened between her and Sam make him feel angry and distant. Guilty Ruth is called back to the house to help Emma - but, before she leaves, David calls her to him for a hug.
