David's DIY skills are put to the test.

It's Valentine's Day, and Emma is going to be spending it without a partner. Susan worries about going out with Neil and leaving her alone with George but Emma prefers it that way.

Shula and Alistair are off to Grey Gables - until he gets an emergency call. Never mind, says Shula, she'll come too. It's quite a tricky job, stitching up a horse with a deep cut, and Shula dons Alistair's overalls and helps out. They enjoy a companionable time working together and remember a similar romantic occasion early in their relationship.

Ruth braves it and goes to David while he's working on the tractor. She takes a bottle of wine, asking if she can join him for a while. She perches on the tractor and tries to understand all the complicated stuff about hydraulics. Finally, she plucks up courage to ask if she and David might do something together soon - she misses him and she loves him. David tries to explain his feelings and things get just a little better. Finally, he kisses her gently and wishes her a Happy Valentine's Day. Ruth is very moved and they quickly get on with talking about hydraulics again.
