A Democratic Time Bomb

Jonathan Dimbleby presents the first of a five-part documentary series charting Chris Patten's governorship of Hong Kong. Having lost his seat in the 1992 general election, Patten is appointed as the first politician to be governor of Hong Kong. His objective is to entrench freedom and democracy before the handover in 1997, but his blueprint for democratic reform enrages the Communists in Beijing.
