What's on and when
From Friday 26th to Sunday 28th August, shows across the network will be getting into the spirit with 6 Music Carnival – a nod to the music events taking place from Reading & Leeds Festival to Manchester Pride and Notting Hill Carnival.
Friday 26 August
Dennis Bovell sits in for Iggy Pop 7-9pm
The reggae guitarist and producer plays his favourite Caribbean sounds. Known for his work with Linton Kwesi Johnson and under his pseudonym Blackbeard, Dennis Bovell does his first show for 6 Music. Find out more
Saturday 27 August
Katie Puckrik is joined by legendary Jamaican producer Lee “Scratch” Perry 7-10am
Katie talks to Lee to find out how to produce the perfect reggae record. Lee has worked on numerous records as both an artist and as a producer. In 2003, he won the Best Reggae Album Grammy for his record Jamaican E.T. As a producer, he has worked with major artists including Bob Marley, Paul McCartney, John Martyn, The Clash and Junior Murvin. Tune in for 100% carnival vibes. Find out more

Norman Jay brings good times vibes with a rich injection of heritage and quality music – ranging from disco-fuelled funky house and old skool jazz-funk to hip hop and chilled out beats. Find out more
Liz Kershaw's Carnival special 1-3pm
Liz asks listeners for festival floor fillers as part of 6 Music carnival weekend, chats to a listener about their favourite album in All Killer No Filler, and is joined by a guest for a Legend In Your Lunchtime. Find out more
Gilles Peterson plays the Brazilian Prom 3-6pm
Gilles reflects carnival season with music from the Islands, words and music with DJ Shadow, and closes out the show with live music from the 6 Music Brazilian Prom. Find out more
The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show 6-9pm
Craig will be exploring the music that can be heard on the international carnival calendar. Expect to hear music by Hot 8 Brass Brand from New Orleans, Brazilian disco boogie sounds, and Kaylan’s reggae from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as jazz and electronica coming out of Berlin. Sunday 28 August
Katie Puckrik meets the Channel One Sound System 7-10am
Katie Puckrik’s morning programme features a carnival-inspired guest mix from Notting Hill Carnival regulars Channel One Sound System. The dub reggae sound system have performed at the Notting Hill Carnival for 30 years, and this morning deliver a 15-minute mix to get listeners in the party mood for the carnival festivities ahead. Cerys On 6 10am-1pm
As well as the usual eclectic music from blues to beats Cerys will be celebrating Carnival weekend with some special tunes. Find out more
Island Sounds with Gemma Cairney 4-6pm
Gemma Cairney explores the new sounds of Soca in Trinidad and Barbados, a blend of African and Trinidadian rhythms. She speaks to Bajan Soca queen Alison Hinds; Soca producers De Red Boyz; Salt, Bubbles and Nikita at Barbados station Slam 101 FM; Bajan spoken word artist, DJ and cultural ambassador DJ Simmons; calypsonian Adonijah; Bristol/Trinidadian duo Jus Now; and DJ Jillionaire from Major Lazer.
Gemma also reports on attempts to keep musical traditions alive in both Guadeloupe and Puerto Rico. In the former, much of the music is driven by the belief in the importance of your roots and many young people are rediscovering their Creole music and language as a result. She interviews the father of zouk and founder of Kassav, Pierre-Edouard Décimus; Gwoka band Kan’nida; and Guadeloupian singer Tanya St Val.
She finishes her journey in Puerto Rico in the land of Reggaeton and visits the studio of Reggaeton godfather DJ Nelson, and chats to Ileana “ILE” Cabra, vocalist of Puerto Rico’s Calle 13; and Puerto Rican Rumba and Bata band, ÌFÉ. Find out more
