6 rock albums Radio 1 fans will love this autumn

Foo Fighters - The Sky Is A Neighborhood
Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World for Wednesday 23rd August 2017.
Dave Grohl took some time out from sunning himself in beautiful Hawaii to get on the phone to Annie Mac, who made the Foo Fighters' new song The Sky Is A Neighbourhood her Hottest Record. Ms Mac pretty much summed up our feelings about the track, saying: ”it’s tender, it’s ferocious, it’s a rollercoaster ride.”
The stunning new song set us to thinking about all the incredible new rock music which is coming out this autumn. Rock fans, get your game face on and brace your ears for impact – you’re in for a lot of treats.
1. Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters

The Glastonbury 2017 headliners are back with their ninth album, Concrete and Gold, on 15th September. In a tweet, Dave Grohl got the whole world in a tizzy with the proclamation: "Remember that ‘break’ we were taking? Well… we lied. We just spent the last six months secretly making a gigantic new Foo Fighters album… that will undoubtedly fry stereos from here to Fukuoka. Start saving your speaker money now. Sorry. It’s big."
While the band, who formed back in 1994, are still rocking with insane amounts of energy, they've also worked with pop producer Greg Kurstin (who's worked with the likes of Katy Perry and Adele) on the record. We've been led to expect some of their biggest and heaviest sounds ever, flecked with a slick pop sheen. "Motorhead’s version of Sgt. Pepper… or something like that," as Dave described it to Annie Mac.
What's more, there are some secret and not-so-secret collaborations on the album which we just cannot WAIT to hear. The band have teased the idea that one of the biggest female pop stars in the world guests on the record, and everyone from Adele to Lady Gaga is currently in the frame. Beatles legend Paul McCartney also makes an appearance, as does (in more of a curveball) a member of 90s crooners Boyz II Men.
2. Wolf Alice

Wolf Alice - Beautifully Unconventional
Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World for Monday 14th August 2017.
Back in 2015, London foursome Wolf Alice made us all swoon with their beautiful, grunge influenced debut album My Love Is Cool.
They're back with a new album Visions Of A Life on 29th September - and the wild, grizzly anger of lead single Yuk Foo has got us thinking that they're returning with more fight than ever. "We wanted to make sure it was bigger and better than our previous album," frontwoman Ellie Roswell told Annie, when the band came in to reveal their latest track (and a Hottest Record) Beautifully Unconventional.
The dawn of Wolf Alice 2.0 has arrived - and we are SO here for it.
3. Queens of the Stone Age

Queens Of The Stone Age - The Evil Has Landed
Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World for Thursday 10th August 2017.
Josh Homme's Palm Desert heavy rockers Queens of the Stone Age are closing the summer with the release of their dramatically named new album Villians, which, unlike their previous records, doesn't feature any guest musicians.
It sounds like the new album will be a bit looser and dancier than their last album, 2013's ...Like Clockwork, but as ever we can expect some ocean liner huge riffs too.
Chatting to Josh about the magnificently titled single The Evil Has Landed, Annie said: "I feel like there's magnificent riffs jumping out at me from every angle." We're braced and ready for the full-blown Villians experience.
4. The Killers

The Killers

The astronomically successful Las Vegas rockers The Killers release their first album in five years, Wonderful Wonderful, on 22nd September. First single The Man revealed a slick glam rock sound, while the track listing for the record seems to suggest it will include a song about boxer Mike Tyson's infamous 1990 defeat by underdog Buster Douglas.
The album was recorded in a tiny studio inside a Las Vegas record shop, with producer Jacknife Lee. Speaking to Annie, the band admitted that their last album Battle Born had perhaps displayed a bit of a lack of focus – but it sounds like that’s all changed with Wonderful Wonderful. “Yeah, we were drifting a little bit,” said frontman Brandon Flowers, “Maybe we were searching. But this time, it felt like we were aiming at the same thing."
5. Nothing But Thieves

Nothing But Thieves - I'm Not Made By Design
Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World for Tuesday 15th August 2017.
Southend act Nothing But Thieves return with their second album Broken Machine on 8th September. Their dark and frustrated first single Amsterdam has got us oh-so-ready for their new record, which sounds like it will see them developing their visceral and punchy sound with even more maturity.
Another brooding single, I'm Not Made by Design, was Annie's hottest record earlier this month.
The band's self-titled debut got to number seven back in 2015, and we predict this album is really going to see them hit their stride.
6. Arcane Roots

Gaining steady hype for their second album Melancholia Hymns, set for release on 15th September, this London alt rock trio have been supported by Radio 1 DJs including Annie and Phil Taggart. The record's second single, Matter - a slow-burning, pummeling epic - had its world premiere on The Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter.
Arcane Roots have already got a huge fan following on the underground scene, so could this be the album to propel them into the big-time? We think it just might - and we're officially pumped to find out.
