Whilst out and about
It's important to spend time in our wild places responsibly. Here are some top tips from Natural England, with more detail here.
- Report your rare bird sightings, such as the marsh harrier, to the BTO.
- Download the National Trust’s 50 things to do before you’re 11 and 3/4 app.
- Download the free Mammal Mapper app and help to track our declining British mammals.
- Want to get involved in bat monitoring? Start here, it's easy!
- Join in with the #WildFlowerHunt with Plant Life.
- If you live in Wales you can report on the colour of fungi growing on your local patch using the WaxcApp.
- From rivers to recycling get your family inspired Earthwatch's Wild Weekends You Tube video collection.
Do your bit at home
- Have you seen any wild mammals in green spaces near your home? If so, the People's Trust for Endangered Species want to know about it, take part in the Living with Mammals survey to let them know.
- Naturehood by Earthwatch Europe wants to help all UK gardens become more nature friendly. See what action you can take to help wildlife on your own doorstep.
- Log your hedgehog sightings on the Hedgehog Street website so we can build a clearer picture of where these animals are.
- These videos are simple guides on how to help wildlifein your garden. Like building a pond or bug hotel which will help entice birds, plants and wildlife into your backyards.

On the coast
- Don’t forget to do a #2minutebeachclean…
- Do your bit and help to reduce plastic pollution in our oceans - Take part in the Great Nurdle Hunt.
- Spotted a skate or ray egg case? Log it here
- Report any marine strandings you come across at the beach
- Seen a jellyfish on our shores? Let the Marine Conservation Society UK know
- Whale Track, help to monitor cetaceans
- Crab Watch, another great free app to gather data on crab populations on our coasts
- Plastic in seabird nests is a huge problem. The environmental Research Institute want to hear from you.
- Finally, if you're lucky enough to see seals this year, take a photograph but remember to keep your distance and watch wildlife responsibly. These tips from the Cornish Wildlife Trust are here to help!
