Augmented Reality 3D Animations

This innovative new augmented reality experience will enable you to explore the organs of your own body in remarkable detail. Using your smartphone’s camera and a free app, 3D animated models of your heart, liver and brain will come to life - springing out from your phone, so you can spin them around and see how your organs work from all angles. The experience is full of surprising facts and useful advice providing more detail about the organs featured in the series.

Here’s what you need to do…

1. DOWNLOAD - the Zappar app on your smartphone or tablet. (Zappar is an augmented reality company that the BBC and The Open University have partnered with for this project). Use the links to download from the App Store , Google Play or search in your download store.

2. PRINT - to get the images download the pdf then print:

3. FOLD AND SCAN - Fold the print outs along the dotted lines, open the Zappar app and point the camera at the print out to scan then follow the simple instructions on screen.

The 3D animations have hotspots enabling you to tap and learn more. You can see how the blood pumps through your heart, how your brain processes thousands of thoughts and how your liver cleans toxins from your system. As well as seeing how your healthy organs function, you can learn about what happens when these organs become diseased and stop working, as well as providing surprising advice to keep yourself healthy.

A selfie mode allows you to project an organ over your body, as if it is your own, and you can even share an image of yourself with the animated organ on social media using #humanbody.

You can also request the interactive Human Body poster and postcards from The Open University website www.open.edu/openlearn/humanbody or by telephoning 0300 3033640.

And if you haven’t got access to a printer you can even try scanning directly from your computer or phone screen.
