Terms & Conditions

Tickets are issued by the British Broadcasting Corporation (“BBC”).

Use of the ticket and attendance at the Radio 1 Academy are subject to these terms and conditions and your use of a ticket or attendance at the Radio 1 Academy signifies your agreement to these terms and conditions.

1. Entry to this event is at the BBC’s sole discretion and the BBC reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone. Please be aware that the BBC may issue more tickets than there are available spaces as not everyone who requests a ticket will always go on to use that ticket, and we want to ensure that all available spaces will be filled.

2. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions and you agree to be bound by them when registering.

3. By entering this event you agree to follow the reasonable directions of the BBC, particularly in respect of health and safety matters.

4. By entering this event you are giving your consent to be filmed, recorded and photographed by the BBC (and the product of such filming, recording and photography shall be owned by the BBC). Where under 16 and featured prominently in filming, parental permission shall be sought and coordinated by the BBC. Where 16 and 17 year olds are prominently featured, a view will be taken by the BBC as to whether self-consent or parental consent is appropriate.

5. The events are free and open to any person, although the sessions are aimed at 16-24 year olds from Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

6. The BBC’s decision as to the allocation of tickets is final. No correspondence relating to the ticket giveaway will be entered into.

7. There are varying age restrictions at events. Please see the website for all details. Proof of age and identity may be requested upon entry. Tickets should be retained at all times during the event. Acceptable forms of ID are Passport, Driving Licence, Student card or Bank Card.

8. The events are free and open to any resident of the UK or the Republic of Ireland (although the event sessions are primarily aimed at 16-24 year olds from Birmingham/ Midlands). Registration is open to UK residents only or those from the Republic of Ireland. Overseas entries will not be considered. Proof of age and identity will be required prior to admission to the event.

9. Re-admission to the event is permitted at the BBC’s discretion. A re-entry stamp will be given to ticket holders to facilitate re-entry at designated entrance/exit points. Those returning to the event will have to go through the security procedures again.

10. Each ticket is for a specific session ONLY. If on the day you wish to sign up to another session you must go to the website to see if space is available.

11. The BBC does not accept any responsibility for late or lost ticket applications. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.

12. The following articles are not permitted within the venue – flags, chairs, knives, fireworks, smoke, canisters, air horns, flares, weapons, dangerous or hazardous item, laser devices, glass vessels, poles and articles that might be used as a weapon and/or compromise public safety.

13. Tickets may not be sold, traded, or offered for sale; and may not be used as a prize or for any other promotional or trade purpose by any organisation except the BBC. Sale or attempted sale is grounds for seizure or cancellation and those trying to use resold or cancelled tickets will be refused entry into the venue. Tickets will be named and ID will be requested on entry to cross reference the corresponding tickets.

14. Every event is non-smoking. Anyone who does not comply with this non-smoking policy will be ejected.

15. No animals are permitted, other than assistance animals.

16. The BBC reserves the right to cancel this event at any point at its sole discretion.

17. The BBC reserves the right to change the event line-up and activities without prior notification.

18. Should the event be cancelled or line-up changed, the BBC will not be liable for the payment of any compensation.

19. The BBC shall not be liable for any loss, damage, cost or expense howsoever caused, except in the case of death or personal injury where this is directly caused by a negligent act or omission of the BBC.

20. The BBC reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Any amendments to these terms and conditions will be displayed at the entrance to the event.

21. The BBC, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem which may result in any registration being lost, not properly registered or e-tickets not arriving.

22. The BBC will only use personal details for the purposes of running the events, administering the ticket giveaway and for evaluation purposes, and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without the relevant individual’s permission. You can read more about the BBC Privacy Policy.

23. The promoter of the ticket giveaway is the British Broadcasting Corporation and the applicable law is the laws of England and Wales or Scotland (where applicable).

24. The BBC reserves the right to:

(i) cancel the ticket-giveaway, at any stage, if in its opinion it is deemed necessary or if circumstances arise outside its control;

(ii) disqualify any applicant who breaches the rules or has acted fraudulently in any way;

(iii) cancel, amend or change the event at any stage;

(iv) refuse entry to the event, at any stage, should any ticket holder or their guest exhibit inappropriate or dangerous behaviour. (Including, but not limited to, being under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or chemical substances or causing a nuisance).

25. The organisers will use their right to search all persons and personal property via the use of bag searches and security checks and shall refuse admission to, or eject from, the venue, any person who refused to be searched by a steward or other person acting on their behalf.

26. You are not permitted to bring drugs (including legal highs) to the event. You may be rejected /ejected from the event and handed over to the police if found in possession of such substances.

27. Alcohol will be on sale in the venue in the evening. However, if you look under 25 years of age please do not be offended if we ask you for proof of age – the only forms of ID acceptable will be a photo driving licence or passport. Security patrols will also operate around the venue to prevent anybody under the age of 18 attempting to consume alcohol.

28. For Dance Workshops: Participants will be asked to complete a ‘Fitness To Participate’ form to declare they are fit and well. Only participants who can self declare are permitted to take part in these workshops.
