Monet in Tales of Winter: The Art of Snow and Ice

Monet's winter works
Artist Rosalind Davis looks more closely at Monet's works that feature winter themes.
Winter was not always beautiful. Until Pieter Bruegel painted Hunters in the Snow, the long bitter months had never been transformed into a thing of beauty.
BBC Four documentary Tales of Winter: The Art of Snow and Ice, originally broadcast in January 2013, charted how mankind's ever-changing struggle with winter has been reflected in western art throughout the ages, resulting in images that are now amongst the greatest paintings of all time.
In this clip from the show, artist Rosalind Davis and critic Jonathan Jones take a look at the winter-themed paintings of French Impressionist Claude Monet.
