Semyon Bychkov is Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Czech Philharmonic. Having completed their Tchaikovsky Project they are now focusing on the symphonic works of Mahler.

In addition to his reputation in core repertoire he has also worked with many leading 20th-century composers, including Berio, Dutilleux and Kagel. In recent seasons he has premiered works by René Staar, Thomas Larcher, Richard Dubignon, Detlev Glanert and Julian Anderson.
His symphonic and operatic repertoire is wide-ranging and he has appeared at the world’s major venues, including La Scala, Milan, Opéra de Paris, Dresden Semperoper, Vienna State Opera, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Maggio Musicale, Florence, and Teatro Real, Madrid. Recent productions include Wagner’s Parsifal at the Bayreuth Festival and Richard Strauss’s Elektra at the Vienna State Opera.
He works with the world’s leading orchestras and appears annually at the BBC Proms with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. This season, in addition to his performances with the Czech Philharmonic, he conducts the Orchestre de Paris, Leipzig Gewandhausorchester and Los Angeles and Oslo Philharmonic orchestras.
He has an extensive and award-winning discography that includes works by Brahms, Glanert, York Höller, Mahler, Rachmaninov, Schmidt, Shostakovich, Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Wagner. In 2015 he was named Conductor of the Year by the International Opera Awards.
