6 amazing things we learned from Strictly star Mollie King

Excited klaxon alert! Grimmy had the scoop on the very first contestant to be named for this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing - and it's none other than The Saturdays megababe Mollie King.

Say WHAT?! Mollie came into the studio to give us the exclusive lowdown on what to expect from her turn on the biggest and spangliest show on TV and now we're quite literally counting down the days until it's back on our screens.

1.) She's been keeping it a secret for a while

If we got chosen for Strictly (I mean, we can dream ok?) we'd want to tell...hmmmm....everyone in our phone book and on all our social media profiles. Plus, random strangers in the street. But Mollie has had to keep it a secret from everyone except her parents and her sisters for AGES.

While most of the Saturdays girls found out exactly when we did, Mollie did speak to Frankie Sandford, who had appeared on the show herself a few years ago.

“She was so excited, she literally was driving as I told her and she had to pull over," said Mollie. Same Frankie, same!

2.) She's got that killer competitive instinct

Mollie may be lovely but she has always had that competitive edge - she once raced for the British Alpine squad and actually turned down a ski career in order to become a singer.

So it's no surprise that she's got her game face on when it comes to perfecting the Tango, the Cha Cha Cha and all the rest.

"I’m very competitive. Watch out, the other contestants, I’m taking you down!" she laughed. "I do want to win, but I think really, I just don’t want to be out in like the first week. That would just be so embarrassing."

3.) She's majorly nervous

Mollie is no stranger to on-stage performances, and even a spot of more "contained" dancing. But Strictly is a whole different ballgame, and she's more than a little nervous.

" I am so, so nervous," she said. "The thing I’m most nervous about is picking up the routine, because I feel like it’s completely different to everything that I’ve done with the Saturdays. And I’ve never done any sort of stage school or anything like that, there’s going to be so much to learn. And I’m quite slow at picking up routines with the band so…I am going to be really nervous. But you’ve just got to throw yourself in haven’t you?"

You do Molly, you definitely do.

The liberal use of spray tan back stage at Strictly is legendary, and Mollie is more than ready to embrace it.

"Oh I am going to be lapping those babies up!" she said. "Try and get me out of that booth, I am gonna be in there!"

We fully expect you to turn terracotta Molly - don't let us down.

5.) She has, er, mixed feelings about the judges

Unsurprisingly, Mollie is a liiiiittle bit scared of facing up to Craig Revel Horwood, who is known for being the harshest of the show's judges. She can't wait to meet former prima ballerina Darcy Bussell though: "She just seems like a real life princess, doesn’t she?"

Mollie is refreshingly honest when it comes to the idea of facing criticism.

"But I do want the…actually, I don’t really want the criticism, to be honest," she said. "Ha! I want them to be like, that was great. 10!"

6.) She will be embracing sparkles. And possibly Britney.

Good news for everyone with a bit of a crush on Mollie (aka, the whole world.) She's single and ready to mingle, so she won't be falling victim to the infamous "Strictly curse."

Nevertheless if love does come calling, she's going to be looking her best. "I always veer away from things like looking too ultra girly because I think, because I’m blonde, I can look a bit Barbie," she said. "But I think with this you’ve just got to go for it, get the pink, get the sparkles, this is your moment to be a princess!"

Mollie is also a huge Britney Spears fan, and warmed to Grimmy's suggestion that she might like to incorporate her influence into her routines. "Oooh I could wear the red catsuit," she said. "Or I could do I’m A Slave For You and come out with a snake! That would be brilliant."
