Eurovision 1956

The first ever Eurovision was in 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland; but the UK didn't compete.

Seven countries performed in the contest singing two songs each with a live orchestra. It had a different scoring system and several other processes that were not repeated in later competitions.

The first ever winners were Switzerland's "Refrain", sung by Lys Assia.
