National Poetry Day: Make Like A Poet
8 October 2015
National Poetry Day is a nationwide celebration of poetry and all things poetic. It's an opportunity to break with the tyranny of prose for 24 hours - sharing poetry through voices, films and pictures in imaginative ways.
This year leading poets, artists and actors are getting together to make new films and digital artworks. The rich voices of Professor Stephen Hawking, Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Juliet Stevenson and Neil Nunes will be speaking the poetry of well known writers Hafez, Dylan Thomas, Sarah Howe, Michael Symmons Roberts and Edna St Vincent Millay.
On the National Poetry Day website you'll find a host of material available free to download and share with friends; from screen savers for mobiles, tablets and laptops to short films. So why not dream, speak, love, live, act and think “like a poet” as the day approaches?
Share your creativity on social media using the hashtag #nationalpoetryday. Leading graphic artist Anthony Burrill will be selecting creations for a display on the Blackpool Illuminations on National Poetry Day.
Co-commissioned by Thirteen Ways and The Space in partnership with Forward Arts Foundation and the BBC.
