16 HUGE Movies To Look Forward To Over The Rest Of 2018

It’s very nearly April. We’ve got through Oscar season, the lull after Oscar season, and now – finally – it’s blockbuster time. Here below are all the very biggest films still to look forward to in 2018, from Avengers: Infinity War to Bumblebee: The Movie. And yes, a lot of them are superhero films, but there are also some dinosaurs in there (Jurassic World 2), a bloodthirsty alien (The Predator) and a magical flying nanny (Mary Poppins Returns). Something for everybody, basically.

Avengers: Infinity War (April 27)

After TEN years of top-notch superhero movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it all comes to a head (kind of) in this, the third Avengers film. A reminder of the 18 outings we’ve had so far:

1. Iron Man (2008)
2. The Incredible Hulk (2008)
3. Iron Man 2 (2010)
4. Thor (2011)
5. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
6. Marvel's The Avengers (2012)
7. Iron Man 3 (2013)
8. Thor: The Dark World (2013)
9. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
10. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
11. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
12. Ant-Man (2015)
13. Captain America: Civil War (2016)
14. Doctor Strange (2016)
15. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
16. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
17. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
18. Black Panther (2018)

So with ALL those heroes, from Ant-Man to The Vision, up against the biggest of big bads, Thanos (the angry bald fella with the giant golden glove), things are really going to kick off. People may actually die, and not in the cheaty Nick Fury or Agent Coulson way, so if you’ve watched even a couple of the above, you won’t want to miss this. Seriously.

Deadpool 2 (May 16)

Deadpool sliced and swore his way into our hearts just two years ago, kicking the X-Men universe in the crotch back in February 2016, all to the tune of DMX’s ‘X Gon' Give It To Ya’. Crude, lude and very, very rude, Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With A Mouth lives to offend and entertain, and the sequel couldn’t be more eagerly anticipated by his new legion of fans, desperate to see what fart gag and/or brutal putdowns he’ll dish out next. Joining him this time: Josh Brolin as cybernetically-enhanced marksman Cable, Zazie Beetz as Domino and Terry Crews in an as-yet undisclosed role. Can’t. Wait.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)

Though it arrives just six months after The Last Jedi, and under a cloud of bad press thanks to its original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller being booted off and replaced by old hand Ron Howard mid-production, Solo is still worth getting excited about because, you know, STAR WARS. Star Wars prequel/spin-off, sure, but still… Star Wars. Alden Ehrenreich plays the titular cynical smuggler, Donald Glover as young traitor-in-waiting Lando Calrissian and the Mother Of Dragons herself, Emilia Clarke, is the mysterious “Qi'ra”. Hmm.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 6)

Jurassic World was fun, right? Well, imagine Jurassic World – Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, dinosaurs, danger, screaming, running – but with an active volcano thrown in the mix. Yep, they went there.

Ocean’s 8 (June 22)

There are cast lists, then there are Ocean’s cast lists. A round of applause then, for… (drum roll), Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter. And yes, this is the all-female spin-off of the Ocean's Eleven heist comedy series, and you’re right, it has been a while since the last one – Ocean’s 13 came out in 2007, fact fans – so it’s a wonder why this spin-off is called Ocean’s 8 and not, say, Ocean’s 14. Probably trying to save money: you know what Hollywood pay packets are like.

Incredibles 2 (July 13)

Pixar’s first Incredibles was released in 2004, so here we are, 14 years later, with one of the most anticipated sequels of all time. The Parr family were crying out for another adventure, but for one reason or another, it’s taken us nearly a decade and a half to see what they got up to since Syndrome was soundly defeated. Looking at the first trailer we’ve seen for the follow-up, the answer is: not a huge amount, unless Mr. Incredible babysitting is exciting for you. Oh, wait, yes… his little one Jack-Jack is a laser-eyed all-powerful superhuman powderkeg. This will go well, for sure.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout (July 26)

The sixth Impossible Mission sees the return of Rogue Nation break-out star Rebecca Ferguson, as well as series stalwarts Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther (Ving Rhames) and Ethan Hunt’s estranged wife Julia (Michelle Monaghan). As you’ve come to expect from the spy franchise, there are a variety of stupidly dangerous stunts to enjoy – including one which, famously, broke Tom Cruise’s ankle and stopped production for months – and a whole new conspiracy which will no doubt involve Ethan being in deep trouble and running around a lot.

Ant-Man And The Wasp (August 3)

A few months after Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel has another little superhero movie for you: Ant-Man And The Wasp. The Wasp in question is played by Evangeline Lilly, which means that yes, yes indeed, Ant-Man And The Wasp is the first Marvel movie EVER to have a female character mentioned in the title. It’s taken ten years. Mad, right? Anyway, get excited for the continuing adventures of Paul Rudd’s likeable thief (and serial self-miniaturiser) Scott Lang as he tries to maintain a relatively normal life when some of the most powerful people in the world are after him to steal his remarkable shrinking tech. Also in this movie: Michael Peña returning as Luis, as well as Michael Douglas as the scientist behind it all, Hank Pym, plus “newcomers” Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne.
