Top tips for uploading Ten Pieces videos

We would like teachers and home educators to send us videos of their pupils' creative responses to any of the pieces in the Ten Pieces repertoire.

You can also use the uploader to send in videos of dancing and performances inspired by the Ten Pieces Nutcracker Live Lesson.

Responses can be by primary and secondary school pupils and in any art form. Watch Clara Amfo's guide to getting started.

Use the checklist below to make sure you're on the right track then start sending us your activities!

Ready to start getting creative?

DO:

  • Get consent - in order to submit a film to the BBC you MUST have secured consent from the parent or legal guardian of EVERY child that features. We advise you to secure consent BEFORE filming - find more information on the uploader page
  • Be imaginative - the more the better! You can use any piece from Ten Pieces I, II and III for your responses, and respond in art form, for example composition, dance/movement, digital art/animation or performance poetry
  • Use our resources - do your pupils need some inspiration? Watch our showcase of responses, get tips from our celebrity-led masterclasses and use our teaching resources

DON'T:

  • Worry if you haven't filmed something before - we're not looking for professionally recorded films, but content that captures the children's enthusiasm and creativity

Ready to film?

DO:

  • Use the recordings provided - please only use the MP3s on the Ten Pieces website if you are using one of the pieces as a backing track. This will avoid issues with music copyright
  • Take a photo of your activity - currently only a video uploader is open but a photo uploader will be available soon
  • Read our filming tips - from light and sound to using a tripod, make sure you read through the filming tips on the uploader page

DON'T:

  • Include children's names in the recording (either spoken or as text, for example in end credits) - including names may lead to the submission being rejected
  • Include copyrighted material (e.g. commercially available music, stock stills or footage), advertising, nudity or swearing
  • Film in portrait - filming in landscape means we can see as much of your hard work as possible!
