Director's notes for episode four

Adrian Shergold on directing Vera's arrival at Moybeg

This was always going to be one shot - from the moment Vera enters the house her energy and her character was going engulf the Coyne family. When I first read the script l knew I would try and make the scene a continuous steadycam shot. It meant supreme concentration from the cast - one mistake and it’s back to the top.

Clever lighting, brilliant operating from Roger Tooley on the steady camera and perfect sound, were all essential. Eight takes later we had the scene. It took a whole morning to shoot but was a triumph and a credit to every member of the crew.

Vera arrives in Moybeg

It's been over a year since Vera last saw her sister and nephew and nieces.
