Hashtag Love: Radio 4's interactive Valentine’s Day drama

Set in the ‘backstage’ world of The Archers, Hashtag Love is the story of sunny Archers producer and social media fan Flora (played by Ruth Jones) and crusty sound engineer and committed Luddite Teddy (played by Stephen Tompkinson). The play will be performed live which means that the cast can react during the action to social media comment. It is a simple will-they-won’t-they romance but with a modern twist - both the dialogue and the plot will be influenced live by real social media posts.

Inspired by the brilliantly written tweets and Facebook posts of Archers fans, the drama is constructed to have not only multiple endings according to how the listeners feel the love story should go, but numerous moments where the characters will read social media posts from real Archers fans.

Writer Peter Souter says “I’m basically incredibly lazy and I noticed that some of the tweeters are actually better writers than me! So a live, interactive love story to celebrate Valentine’s Day seemed like a smart thing to create”.

Hashtag Love reunites the cast, director and writer of 13a, 13b, last year’s well received romantic comedy set on a damaged airliner.

If you would like to get involved in the action look out for tweets about the drama from the Radio 4 Twitter account and use the hashtag #HashtagLove.
