The Great Polish Map of Scotland: Incredible 3D views from the Highlands to the lowlands

23 November 2017

In 1996, Keith Burns stumbled across an abandoned and overgrown 3D map of Scotland in the grounds of a Borders’ hotel.

The map had been created in the 1970s at the behest of Jan Tomasik, a former sergeant in the Polish army. It was built over the course of several summers as a thank you to Scotland for its hospitality to Poles after the war.

However, the map was never completed and fell into disrepair.

But, as Keith Burns tells Dougie Vipond on Landward, since he discovered the map, he’s been on a mission to restore it to its intended glory, and that mission is now complete.
