BBC Fresh Profile: Joe Fellows
Joe Fellows’ film focuses on his brother, whose childhood fall from a sycamore inspires a life in the trees.
Joe now runs own production company has big ambitions for the future.

Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?
There aren't many films about arboriculture and I thought it could be engaging and entertaining.
What motivated you to make this film?
My brother is an arborist and I thought it would be wonderful to record him at work for prosperity and bring together what he and I do into one project.
I thought that aesthetically a tree surgeon at work would be interesting. The different types of knots fascinated me and I knew the physicality would work well on film.
What camera did you use to shoot your film?
I used a Canon 7D.
Who/what inspires you?
My inspiration comes from all around me. I might see something on the web or in the street. It might be an old poster or something a friend says to me or a thought provoking documentary. It might be watching someone who absolutely loves their work. I'm also inspired by the excitement of creating something from nothing, making something that has never existed before.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are carry on building my company Make Productions. I plan on focussing on directing and making a feature length documentary. I plan on having some fun along the way and working with really talented people who love their work!
What is the most important thing you have learned so far?
Just make something.
