So what was Ultimate Hell Week really like?

With applications open for the second series of Special Forces Ultimate Hell Week we thought we would try and give you a little inspiration. So, we contacted some of the ‘recruits’ from Series One to tell you a little about their experience…

Paul Parish

‘It is an experience that has a profound effect on me. I had succeeded in achieving success in a number of extreme events, but had always felt a fraud, not believing it was really me or that I had been lucky and undeserving of the success. Ultimate Hell Week proved to me that, like it or not, there is a deep core of strength in me that I can tap into and that I should be proud of that. I am still “me” but I have a greater understanding of who I am and it has made me proud and more thankful for what I am. ‘

Danielle Murphy

‘It was the hardest, most physically demanding, controlling, emotional and draining experience of my life. I thought I was tough, I thought I was strong but this was a challenge that pushed me beyond my personal limits. I'm proud I took part as are my friends and family. I did it for no other reason than to prove to myself I was still capable of achieving great things.’

Steve Curnyn

‘I know now, I genuinely believe I can do anything!! This show has actually given me a new sense of determination in life to be the best I can at home, work and as a friend. Hands down the best experience I've ever done!! Would I do it again? No! But I do feel satisfied with my performance and making it to the final day.’

Danny Bent

‘What do you need to succeed at Ultimate Hell Week? Some basic strength and stamina of course, but much more than that you need a strong mind. To say 'I'm carrying on" when all is crumbling around you. To not quit when you break (you will be broken). The biggest strength is the knowledge of who you are, the liking who you are, the kind of mind that smiles when you're in pain - because your inner being is going to be exposed to a whole new level.’

Andy Gatenby

‘BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS are just the start; get ready for the roller coaster of a lifetime. The single most difficult but amazing experience of my life I gained memories to last a lifetime GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE WHO DARES you’re gonna need it!’

Huw Brassington

‘To take part in the game you have to be in peak physical condition no doubt, without this you won’t even get out of the blocks. This is the base line, but it’s not what gets you through. Everyone is fit or has the capacity to be fit enough, but not everyone has the mental fortitude that merits Special Forces selection, and that's what they try and gauge.
They broke our bodies down, almost neutralizing the physical aspect as we were all in this semi-broken mashed-up state, and what is left, what keeps you going, is what they are looking for, your metal. Having this examined is intrinsically painful, but rewarding and valuable; where else in modern life can you answer such questions about yourself?’

Well, if that doesn’t inspire you I don’t know what will!
