BBC Fresh Profile: Beth Macaulay

Beth Macaulay describes her interest in making documentaries

The phonomenon of online video channels, and the stories behind the people who create them, inspired Beth to make her film.

Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?

Online video channels have become increasingly popular and 'YouTubers' are becoming well known figures within the media. I wanted to go behind the scenes and explore what this means for the people who create these channels.

What motivated you to make this film?

Most people nowadays watch online videos on a regular basis, including myself. I watch a lot of people online who have millions of subscribers to their weekly videos. I thought it would be an interesting idea to show an insight to the passion and the hard work that goes into making a channel.

What camera did you use to shoot your film?

I used Panasonic AG-AC90 camcorder to shoot my film.

Who/what inspires you?

Within the media industry, my inspiration is Steven Moffat who produces and writes for television dramas such as Doctor Who and Sherlock.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future are to continue to making my own short films and hopefully work in the production industry someday.

What is the most important thing you have learned so far?

I have learned that making films takes a lot of organisation, determination and creativity. However, the process and outcome are very rewarding. The most important thing for me is to enjoy what I am doing.
