Hats off to crochet skills which are good enough to eat

Australian Phil Ferguson - AKA Chili Philly - found himself alone in a new city so he used his impressive crocheting skills to find friends by making hats and other headgear in the shape of food! Sausage-and-mash, hotdog, cake, pizza and fresh fruit are all on his menu of creativity.

Lonely Aussie makes friends by crocheting food-themed hats

Amazing images of crocheted, food-themed headgear by Australian artist Phil Ferguson.

His first crocheted hat was a cactus in a pot plant but it wasn't long before food was his focus. Taking inspiration from his job in a fast food shop, he made a hat in the shape of a burger. It took Ferguson three months but was so well received by friends that food became the only thing on his crocheting menu.

"I kept doing food as it's such a popular thing and a popular theme," he said in an interview with World Service World Update presenter Dan Damon.

Chicken drumsticks, sushi, donuts and even a peeled banana are all in his portfolio with pictures uploaded onto social media earning him almost 60,000 followers to his ChiliPhilly Instagram account.

Now, every meal time is a potential source - or should that be sauce - of inspiration. "If I see something I imagine making that into a hat straight away," he said.
