BBC Fresh Profile: Jade-Marie Joseph

Film-maker Jade-Marie Joseph talks about what inspired her short film LIFE How We Live.

Jade-Marie is an aspiring actress and tells Fresh how she wanted to present the positive face of youth culture.

Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?

Fresh suited the audience I was targeting and I felt that this was the right platform to air what I felt others needed to see, and also to inspire other youths to take on the same temperament.

What motivated you to make this film?

I needed to air an issue that was very close to my heart, I wanted people to see the positive side to young urban culture, the bits that all these other urban programmes seem to omit from their shows.

What camera did you use to shoot your film?

A HD JVC camcorder, and some bits were shot from my iPhone.

Who/what inspires you?

Beyoncé’s documentary of her life story inspired me to make a programme based on the closest people around me. Their stories itself truly inspired me to complete the project.

What are your plans for the future?

In the future I hope to become a successful actress starting from theatre, breaking onto TV and film, and hopefully create more projects of my own, including a series of youth workshops.

What is the most important thing you have learned so far?

I've learnt that I can actually create something from scratch and devise new ideas that are thought provoking and entertaining, and it has encouraged me to persevere with other initiatives.
