BBC Fresh Profile: Robert Page
Student film-maker Robert Page talks about how his parents' reflections on their life together inspired his short documentary film, My Mum Deserves A Medal.
Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?
I picked this subject because I believe that we can only know where are if we know where we have come from. As a young person, it is important that we learn from past generations and use their collective knowledge to better the world we are presented with today.
What motivated you to make this film?
My main motivation to make the film was to show a life well spent. I am pre-occupied by purpose and living a life that was worthwhile and therefore I felt that discussing this with my parents while they reflected on their life together would teach me something about myself and what really matters to me.
What camera did you use to shoot your film?
The film is made entirely of archive photographs from family photo albums.
What are your plans for the future?
I am currently in my final year of study for Film Production at Staffordshire University and so my initial plans are to finalise my degree and move into the television industry, pursuing a career in post-production.
What is the most important thing you have learned so far?
Regardless of background, age or environment we are made from the same things that make every single thing that has ever or will ever exist in the universe. When we realise this, we are unified with everything and everybody around us and it is through this realisation that we can come to understand each other.
